Apologies for my dozy-ness Jeanette, it took a while for me to see this. Confused

Linda is feeling somewhat better, although she is still not right, she is going to see a muscular specialist soon, so hopefully that should shed some light onto things. But she is now pottering around a little and laughing as usual so the signs are good.

Thanks for asking

I saw Leona at the hospital today, she was there for some results, she is still not too well but hoping to be able to be at the next meeting, and she says she is going to do her best to get to the next investigation. Hope you are feeling better soon Leona.

Get well thoughts go again to other members who haven't been to well over the last few months like Linda and Chris. Hope there are happier times ahead for both of you too.

And to any one else who is feeling a little bit down, unwell and just plain fed up, hope you enjoy Christmas and are feeling better in the new year.

Cool Cool

I drove out to see Jo today at the hospital Jo and Kieth told me that she has had a few really bad days, She is allergic to penicillin which made finding an antibiotic to help fight the infection difficult. That and not being able to keep anything down and her blood sugars being up, each one affecting the other being a vicious circle for diabetics and their recovery. But today she is much better and brighter in herself as they have found an antibiotic to use and she has been receiving it intravenously on a speed up to boost her getting well again, she will be in for at least another week. But is keeping her fingers crossed that she will still be able to join us at The Galleries. I passed her on all your good wishes and if I get any further updates on her progress I will keep you informed.

I spoke to Jo today she says she is still waiting to have an MRI scan which is now happening on Thursday. The healing outside is doing fine but its the inside of her foot they are now concerned about. I have said to her that if they thought there was any reason for real concern they would have done it PDQ and to wait until Thursday shows a bit less of a panic on their side. But for now its just waiting.

Just an update, Jo texted me today and they have moved her MRI scan that she should have had today until tomorrow, so you can imagine how fed up she is getting, as she says "shes not a happy bunny" (actually I missed out an expletive there) Laughing Laughing Laughing

I also met up with another one of our Pathfinder family in Whiston Hospital today. Leona has been in for a few days and says she will probably in for a few more yet. But she is going to do her best to be with us for our Cystic Fibrosis sponsored spook this year at Ordsall Hall.

Jo said her scan went fine and as far as she's been told there is no surgery needed the bone is ok, so with a bit more of the antibiotics she should be back investigating with us again soon Cool

What can I say? You are all such lovely people - thank you so much for your good wishes! Sorry I haven't been able to post anything whilst in hospital - the "Patientline" tv/phone/internet wouldn't let me on the site!
Am now safely sitting in my living room, I'VE ESCAPED!!
I was told today by my podiatrist and consultant that they thought that I was going to lose my foot - something they never actually told me. All I got was "Don't worry". It was pretty bad.
As Jeanette has explained, my penicillin allergy caused the doctors, pharmacists and microbiologists several problems and the first 6 lots of antibiotics I was on just didn't work. The IV antibiotics caused problems as my veins kept collapsing, refusing to let the canulas in; the next oral ones I was given proceeded to make me shout into the big white telephone (I think you know what I mean, guys!) One night, I was compared to someone from The Exorcist, as it was bright red! Anyhoo, after much sample taking, much blood taking and many discussions with the microbiologist, a relatively new antibiotic, Linezolid, was prescribed. I have to take 2 a day for 4 weeks (I have 10 more days to go), at a cost of £45 per tablet. (You work it out - my brain has turned to mush!)
I have slight (not "rip roaring") ostemyelitis in my big toe (according to my consultant, my big toe bones are "mouldy") but these anti biotics should fix that. I am still having to go to the podiatrist as an outpatient for 3 days a week, so, to quote I am "not out of the woods yet", but the main infection has gone and my blood sugars are now back to normal (actually, they have never been normal....), so things are looking better than they did 4 weeks ago. I feel I have lost 4 weeks of my life - I am so pleased and relieved to be home, surrounded by my things and my family! (Oh and food that I have prepared and can enjoy!)
Thanks once again for all your thoughts and messages - I hope to be at the Galleries, but the final decision can't be made till Wednesday when I see the consultant and podiatrist! I don't want to miss it as I have been looking forward to it for ages and ages!! And yes, Jeanette, I am now quite proficient on my crutches!!
Love you all,
Jo xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Glad your back home Jo. Just take things easy for now, if you are not up for the GOJ, dont worry, as I am sure there are lots of other great invests lined up for next year, the main thing is to get yourself better. as Jeanette says if you do come, there may be certain places that you wont be able to do cos of access, but I am sure whatever you will have a brill time there. If Steph is still on her crutches, you and her will look like a pair of bookends. Laughing Laughing Scary stuff about maybe you could have lost your foot, so glad that is all sorted out. I am also allergic to penecillan, its a bit of a nuisance trying to find an alternative antibiotic that does as good a job. glad you got that sorted. Anyhow hopefully we will see you on Friday. Take care. Lin xxx
